  • Set a time line to upgrade your product/service and release the upgraded product/service to a small group of audience for testing and gather the data about the product and keep on upgrading it till the time you are confident enough to launch in a full fledged way.
  • Ask for feedback about your product/service from your customers.
  • Any shortcoming in your product, or anything that could cause problems for your customers, acknowledge it and explain the resolution on your website. If you wish, you can also email your customers with this information. It’s better to offer the solution up front rather than wait until they find it and then face difficulties.

Don’t Bond With Their Customers

This is one another and super important reason why most businesses fail. They don’t bond with their customers and the main reason is, they do not spend time understanding their customers’ journey. I know every customer is different but for a specific industry, they follow a similar pattern. In marketing, this pattern is known as the sales funnel. It may vary slightly from business to business, but most of the time, it is the same. You need to understand this, your customers are looking for a solution to a problem and you need to present your product/service in such a way that it could display the required solution and this presentation depends on which stage of the sales funnel your customers are at. Before launching your website or updating it, have a discussion with your marketing or sales team/person and try to understand their journey. Here are some tips that will help you to avoid this mistake that most of business owners make:

  • Ask your sales team or marketing person/team about what all questions your customers asked in the last 6 months and make a list of these questions
  • Try to answer these questions on the home page of your website or create a separate section or page for these questions under FAQs.
  • Try to understand why your potential customers are not ending up taking your product/services. For example, if you find that they are looking for a good price, offer them some discount or cashback. If they are looking for value, offer them freebies, additional services or a trial period.

Every small, medium, big business is now looking for ways to go digital. But, even though they are going digital, still they are not emphasizing on their marketing strategy. In my experience, every business needs a customized marketing strategy to cater to their customers. But most of them are still applying old strategies. I am not saying that those strategies are worthless. All I am saying is that you also have to find new strategies while using old ones. You need to understand, the world has changed and so are your customers. They are not searching in the same way as they used to do it a couple of years ago. Now, most of them use Google Assistant, Alexa or Voice search, use long tail keywords and sentences to search, engaging more with graphical content as compared to text content. Just like your website and product/services, your marketing strategies also need to be upgraded.

Here are some tips:

  • Use social media marketing to promote your new offers, discounts or new product launches
  • Use PPC ads to target popular keywords
  • Use graphic ads to grab the attention of new customers
  • Remarket
  • Most importantly, try the combinations of the above.

Afraid of trying new things

It may not sound so nice but it’s the harsh truth. People are afraid of trying new things when it comes to digital marketing. Something is working for you it doesn’t mean other won’t work at all.
